Classifying Ohio Ghost Towns
Would-be ghost towns con take on a variety of appearances in various stages of their demises.In order to catalogue and categorized Ohio ghost towns,a system of four different classifications of ghost towns was developed. These classifications are:
True Ghost Towns - These are town which once existed but today have no human inhabitants and/or business.
Semi-Ghost Towns - These fre towns that once existed but today have less than ten percent of their original number of inhabitants and/or businesses.
Paper (Ghost) Towns - These are towns that were plotted and often recorded but never can into being.
Old Towns - These are towns that have existed for at least a hundred years and have either been moved or have totally changed their character and their names from what they were originally.
Whenever an Ohio ghost town is "written up" close attention is paid to where it "fits" in the Center for Ghost Town Research in Ohio's classification system.
